Qwhisper has developed technology to infer semantic context from short text typical of social networks. Founded by two Stanford Ph.D. students, Qwhisper includes researchers and engineers from Google, MSR, and HP Labs. Their team developed technology that can categorize short posts and identify mentioned topics (including products, movies, and general interests). Their algorithms utilize social graph signals and are optimized for colloquial language and minimal textual context. They will soon release its API to companies to enable a new class of consumer apps that rely on rich social context.
